Band line-up. Ronnie is back!!

Carol Decker

Carol was born on 10th September 1957 in Liverpool and was educated in Wellington, Shropshire.

She is the singer/co-writer of all of T'Pau's hits.  She is the 'front woman' for the band.  In the 80's and part of the 90's, Carol's partner was Ronnie Rogers, rhythm guitarist/co-writer of the songs, for 13 years. They parted in the 90's, but still remain good friends.

Carol was 29 when the band first made it big with Heart and Soul, and 30 with China In Your Hand.  In a recent interview on Loose Women, they were discussing that that was quite old to find fame in the music business.  Carol was quoted as saying "ancient!!", as compared to some of the artists of today, they can be as young as 16/17!!

Carol Decker is T'Pau and T'Pau is Carol Decker, there's no doubt about that!  When you hear either name, you automatically get this image of the endearing features remembered as far back as 1987, and still remembered to this day; the big flame-coloured hair, the short skirts, the high heels and not forgetting that oh so powerful voice!

When mentioned in the media, Carol's attributes are always mentioned; "Flamed haired songstress", "The big voice from the 80's", "80's icon", and when you read the publicity for the #TPau25 Tour in this Blog, you will see many similar comments!

Way back in 1987, a very reputable music publication quoted Carol as being "Springsteen in a split-skirt", now to me this was the complement of all complements-she was being compared to a multi-talented world-famous rocker!  Carol was this new rock sensation, and I bet you not many other female lead singers of a band have had such a huge complement paid to them!

Just recently I was going through music videos on my YouView box, and came across 'Heart & Soul', and it said "...led by flame-haired rock goddess Carol Decker..."

Ron Rogers

Ronnie was born 13th March 1959 in Shrewsbury.  He was the the Rhythm Guitarist /co song-writer of the band, along with Carol.  They had a 13 year relationship during part of the 80's and 90's.

As mentioned above, they remain very good friends.  Ronnie now lives in Wales, and is still in the music business, and has his own group called 'The Ronaldo's'.  Himself and Carol still write material together.

Both carol and Ron were the 'glue' that held the band together and made it the solid band that it was.  They were such a good team, from writing the songs to the overall 'housekeeping' of the band; making sure the band were well turned out, everything looked and sounded good and that everything ran as smoothly as possible.

When it was announced at the beginning of the year that there was to be a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of T'Pau, I don't think anyone would have dreamed that Ron would come on tour!
Then the press release was issued, and it said that he would be making appearances at about 5 or 6 of the gigs!  This made the fans go wild with excitement!  Carol & Ron back on stage doing a full set together for the first time in over 20 years, this was amazing!

The fans were discussing it on the T'Pau25 Official FaceBook Page, and a lot were saying "I want to go to one of the shows with Ron playing".  Obviously, not all of the fans would have been able to get the opportunity to see Ron, as it was only 5 or 6 shows.

Then everything was to change-Ron posted on the T'Pau FaceBook Page that he had committed himself to the 'whole' of the #TPau25 Tour!  Fans were going wild with excitement on FaceBook, and it generated a lot of discussion.

Carol and Ron were to be back where they both belonged, at the front of the stage once more!

James Ashby

James was born on 13/07 89 in Cookham, a Town on the North-East corner of Berkshire.
He is one very talented guitarist, and the skills he has shown at the #TPau25 Tour of his craft have been amazing to watch and listen to and make you forget that he is only just 23!

James wasn't even born when T'Pau first made it big on the music scene over 25 years ago, something Carol has mentioned a few times at the tour!!

James' guitar solo at the end of 'Strange Place', which was performed during the tour, was pure perfection!  The video of him performing it at The Robin 2 can be found in this Blog.

You can currently find James as a guitarist in the band 'Private Jet', here is the band's profile :

"A brand new band of noise merchants from the southeast.  Taking flavours from Zeppelin to The Stooges, and giving a live show to make the walls sweat.  The lovechild of old musical projects, a truckload of  live experience and too many drunken jams.
British rock without the unnecessary need tp plaster everything in Union Jacks.  Plenty of shows coming up all around so come down and see what the speaks all about."

The bands line-up is :

Liam Barnes - Bass
Seb Assefuah - Drums
Ben Smith - Vocals
James Ashby - Guitar

Kez Gunes

Kerim 'Kez' Gunes was born to classical musician parents so his earliest years were spent running wild around the Albert Hall and other classical institutions across London.

Bought a cello by his father aged 6, this became the musical release until when aged 13 his best friend gave him a Fender bass guitar. Unfortunately the cello fell to the wayside but rock and funk took over under the stewardship of Led Zeppelin records and a Louis Johnson video.

As a regular on the North London funk scene Kerim honed his skills and developed a healthy taste for the Funk whilst two pivotal moments shaped him.

Seeing Larry Graham live at the Jazz CafĂ© and then playing with James Browns “Funky Drummer” Clyde Stubblefield on his UK tour. Aside from co-founding The Killer Meters and rock 3-piece The Dirty Feel Kerim has spent the last 8 years touring the world with Victor Davies and has more recently joined The Future Sound Of London’s psychedelic supergroup the Amorphous Androgynous.
